i remember when i was a senior, my friend jennifer lent me a copy of battle royale. when i first got it, i read through the first two sections in less than a week. then when one of my friends showed me scenes from the film adaption, i foolishly watched the film without finishing the book. at that point i was at the final stage of the book ( the book is divided into stages)
what made the book/film awesome was the subject matter. think of it like lord of the flies meets the dystopian setting of brave new world or 1984 and add some gore and tons of violence. in high school my mind was treated with these images of students fighting each other with various weapons some armed with guns, some armed with a frying pan.
though i really enjoyed the movie. i was really disappointed i never finished the book. sadly my friend had to get her copy back and i didn’t get a copy until i found the book at a barnes and noble. but even when i got it, i lost my place and couldn’t remember where i left off.
high school ended and college began and still haven’t gotten to finish the novel version of battle royale. today i did and though its a just a book, it feels to finish something that you once started.
tl dr ?
ending statement- battle royal is awesome. read the book. watch the movie, but don’t watch the shitty sequel.
